1st Place: $500 | 2nd Place: $200 | 3rd Place: $100 | PEOPLE’S CHOICE: $50.
*Winners will be notified before the exhibition opens. Except People’s Choice. People’s Choice Award will be voted for by visitors to the Galleries between August 14 to August 21. Winning entries will be posted online. *Prizes will be mailed to the winners.
JUDGE: Artist, Steve Brooks – Brooks was born in Augusta, GA and has lived in Hickory since he was seven years old. Brooks holds a B.A. in fine art from Washington & Lee University and an MFA in painting from the University of NC at Greensboro and a degree in furniture design from Kendall College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Additionally, he has studied at the Art Student League in New York and the Savannah College of Art & Design. He has exhibited widely throughout the region at museums and galleries and is the recipient of numerous awards for excellence. He has taught art and history at several NC schools, worked in museums including the Cone Museum in Greensboro, designed furniture for Henredon and Zagaroli & Co.
The decisions of the judge are final.
ELIGIBLE WORKS: 2-Dimensional oil, watercolor, mixed-media, pastel, acrylic, and graphic works.
*NEW THIS YEAR: 3-Dimensional work has been added. All works must be original and never shown before at the Rock School Open Art Competition.
ENTRIES PER ARTISTS – There is a limit of two entries for 2D and one entry for 3D per artist. If entering both 2D and 3D works you may only enter one of each.
PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS — All paintings must be ready for hanging using wire for hanging. Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable. Size for 2D is limited to 48” horizontally and vertically. For information regarding size limits for 3D works, please call 828-838-9806 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Artwork needs to be priced. If artwork is NFS there must be a value given. Tags found on the Submission Form.
HANGING COMMITTEE’S AUTHORITY — The committee reserves the right to reject a painting for any reason.
LIABILITY — Entries will be handled with every care, but the Rock School Galleries cannot be responsible for loss or damage from any cause.
ARTIST FEES — RSAF Members: $10 per artist. Non-members: $15. Make checks payable to RSAF or Rock School Arts Foundation.
COMMISSIONS — RSAF will waive the commission this year.
RECEIVING of EXHIBITED WORK —Wednesday, July 28, 12–6pm and Thursday, July 29, 10am–2pm in the Old Rock School Gallery I.
REMOVAL of EXHIBITED WORK – Tuesday, September 28 and Wednesday, September 29. Please pick up your works on these dates Between 9am and 4pm. Storing paintings is not permitted. No works may be removed before Friday, September 24.
HANGING COMMITTEE’S AUTHORITY — Committee reserves the right to reject a painting for any reason.

PAYMENT/OWNERSHIP OF ARTWORK — Payment for purchased artwork during OAC is due on the day of purchase. Payment is cash/check only. Possession of purchased artwork will be given on the dates of removal.
