A CALL TO ARTISTS


EXHIBITION of ENTRIES — Friday, August 1, through Friday, August 29. With Opening Day August 9. 

Galleries are open weekdays from 9 am–5 pm.  The exhibition can be viewed on the Rock School Arts Foundation website (rockschoolartgalleries.com) from August 1 to September 26.  


ARTIST AGE REQUIREMENT—Must be 18 or older.


AWARDS — 1ST $500 / 2ND $200 / 3RD $100 / PEOPLE’S CHOICE $50 **Winners will be notified before the exhibition opens except People’s Choice. The People’s Choice Award will be voted for by visitors to the galleries on Exhibition Opening Day, August 9. **Prizes will be mailed to the winners. 


JUDGE:  
Mary Anne Redding is the senior curator at the Turchin Center for Visual Arts at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. She is a visual arts curator and writer with more than forty years’ experience working as a curator, archivist, librarian, educator, arts administrator, and sometimes image maker. Redding holds a BA in English Literature from Ohio University, an MA in Arts Administration from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and MLS from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana as well as an advanced certificate in Museum Studies from Arizona State University, an MA in Creative Leadership from Minneapolis College of Art and Design. Her publications include A Country No More: Rediscovering the Landscapes of John James Audubon with photographer Krista Elrick (2021); Gila: Radical Visions/The Enduring Silence with photographer Michael Berman (2012); the introduction for Light in the Desert: Photographs from the Monastery of Christ in the Desert, photographs by Tony O’Brien and an essay by Christopher Merrill (2011); Through the Lens: Creating Santa Fe (Museum of New Mexico Press, 2009); and, Grasslands/Separating Species an exhibition catalog for 516 ARTS in Albuquerque, New Mexico; as well as an essay in Land/Art New Mexico, published by Radius Press in 2010. 


ELIGIBLE WORKS—2-Dimensional  and 3-Dimensional works. All works must be original and never shown before in the Rock School Open Art Competition.


ENTRIES PER ARTIST – Two entries per artist. Entries may be 2 2D works or 2 3D works.  Or 1 2D and 1 3D together to make the 2-entry limit.


PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS

  • All paintings must be ready for hanging using wire for hanging. Sawtooth hangers are not acceptable. 
  • Works submitted framed and under glass must come with an image (JPEG) to be used on the website. If the artist does not provide an emailed image of the work, it will not be placed on the website. The foundation will not photograph artwork under glass.
  • Size for 2D is limited to 48” horizontally and vertically. For information regarding size limits for 3D works, please call 828-838-9806 or email rsaf1893@gmail.com. Artwork needs to be priced. If artwork is NFS there must be a value given. 
  • Tags for artwork are on the third page of this information.


LIABILITY—Entries will be handled with care. Rock School Art Foundation will not be responsible for loss or damage from any cause.


ARTIST FEES—RSAF Members: $10 per artist. Non-members: $15. Cash or Checks (payable to RSAF or Rock School Arts Foundation).


COMMISSIONS—20% of the asking price for each artwork sold.


RECEIVING of EXHIBITED WORK —Wednesday, July 23, 12–6pm and Thursday, July 24, 10am–2pm in Gallery I.


REMOVAL of EXHIBITED WORK – Tuesday, September 2, and Wednesday, September 3. Please pick up your work on these dates between 9am and 4pm. Storing paintings is not permitted. No work may be removed before Friday, August 29.


HANGING COMMITTEE’S AUTHORITY — The Committee reserves the right to reject a painting for any reason. The decisions of the Hanging Committee are final.


SALES of ARTWORK — Sheets with Purchasing Information will be in the galleries. Or contact the Executive Director at 828-838-9806.


PAYMENT/OWNERSHIP OF ARTWORK—Payment for purchased artwork during OAC is due on the day of possession. Payment is cash/check/credit card. Possession of purchased artwork will be given on the date of removal.
